Airtight Games, the Redmond studio Butterfly ValvesI wrote about in today's column, announced that it's hired a key developer from Bellevue's Valve Software. Kim Swift, creative director on Valve's experimental hit puzzle game "Portal" and part of the "Left 4 Dead" team, is joining Airtight to help the studio expand its portfolio. "Her addition to the team represents a strategic Balance valvesmove by Airtight Games into new and broader gaming markets," Airtight President Jim Deal said in the release. Swift is also a standout graduate of Redmond's DigiPen game development college. Here's a video of a lecture she gave at the 2007 Game Developers Conference, talking about moving from DigiPen to Valve. Deal and other Airtight bosses may also get cameo roles as zombie Safety valves attack victims in Valve's "Left 4 Dead 3."
